patient is ambulatory and has returned to arelatively normal routine. Risks: Most cosmetic surgery isextremely safe in the hands of surgeons certified by theAmerican Board of Plastic Surgery. Postoperative monitoring and homecare: In the immediate postoperative period, any patientundergoing cosmetic surgery should be monitored by qualifiedmedical personnel and discharged from the surgical facility onlyafter evaluation by the surgeon. Usually, cosmetic surgery isperformed as an outpatient procedure; occasionally, the surgeonmay recommend an overnight stay. Patients should arrange to havesomeone available for assistance for the first day or twofollowing surgery.
