Before And After Breast Augmentation

Plastic surgery has become so popular probably because of allthe attention it has received in the media. People hear about iton television and it has become a lot more acceptable than itused to be to have cosmetic surgery. Breast implants have been used at least since 1865 to augmentthe size of women's breasts. The earliest known implant occurredin Germany in which fat from a benign tumor was removed from awoman's back and implanted in her breast. In following years themedical community experimented with implants of variousmaterials, most commonly paraffin. The first use of silicone asbreast- implant material may have been by Japanese prostitutesin the period immediately following World War II, who woulddirectly inject silicone into their breasts. Houston plastic surgeons Thomas Cronin and Frank Gerow developedthe first silicone breast prosthesis with the Dow CorningCorporation in 1961 and the first woman was implanted in 1962.The implant was made of a silicone rubber envelope or sac filledwith a thick, viscous silicone gel.
Since then developments have focused on making the implants lastlonger, feel better and excite less fibrous tissue in thecapsule around the device. Capsule tends to make the implantfeel hard, look distorted and unnatural and may cause pain. The two main different types of implants for AugmentationMammaplasty or the correction of small breasts are: Silicone implants These are made of silicone gel within a silicone cover and thesurface of the implant can be smooth or texturized. Saline filled implants These have a silicone cover around them. They tend to be morerigid and frequently lose volume with time, becoming wrinkledand changing their shape. It would be a good thing if you found someone who is amember of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is boardcertified. Make sure the clinic or hospital where the surgery will beperformed has technical and scientific resource necessary toattend to any type of complication that appears during or afterthe surgery. Another thing to be aware of is this... make sureyou get some sort of certification on the implant, by completinga reference format which assures the implant's authenticity andquality. At the initial and subsequent interviews the surgery procedurewill have been explained and discussed with you. The use ofgeneral anesthesia, where the incision is going to be and wherethe implant is going to be placed so the desired result can beobtained. After surgery and stitching the incision the breasts are"molded" on the exterior with paper tape. It is placed over thewound and around the breast to "mold" and fix the implantexternally. Finally, the surgeon fits the patient with a special bra whichwill have to be worn for the next six weeks. The patient is transferred to the recovery room where sheremains for 1 or 2 hours. If there are no complications orindications for hospitalization, she can then leave the hospitaland go home. Swelling and pain can be considerable, and they are handled withpain or anti-inflammatory medications administered orally. The patient must keep moderate rest for 2 to 3 weeks. She mustnot drive motor vehicles nor exercise her arms for the sameamount of time. Definitive breast shaped can be appraised after 2 to 3 months.The permanent use of a supporting bra is advisable, even atnight, because the weight of the implant and breast can causestretching of the skin and gradual breast descent with time.
